Motorola Droid Review and Links

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Verizon Motorola DroidHave a new Droid Phone?  I have purchased my Droid at Walmart and found it to be a great deal.  $188 out the door without having to deal with mail in rebates like you would at the Verizon Store.

One of the many great apps that I have used so far is QIK.COM. [qik user=”dkwizard1″]

With this app, I was able to stream video of my sons soccer and cross country events live to the internet.  Being new to the app, I didn’t realize that the default setting was set to private instead of public.  Once I changed it, everyone was able to watch the events live.  I liked the chat interaction from the people watching from the live stream.  I did notice, as time went on, the lag was almost up to 4 minutes.  I am guessing this is due to data congestion on the network.  However, once I stopped the stream and restarted, all was ok again.  I also noticed that It recorded the event on the website instead of my phone.  That is a great space saving feature.  At this point, I am not sure how long or how many videos I can save on the website.  The best part about this app, is that it is free.  One of the cons about the app is that there isn’t a zoom feature.  One of the comments was that the viewers needed binoculars to watch the event live.

Evernote – Great app

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

After listening to Leo Laporte, I found an app that I had to try.  Evernote, at evernote.com allows you to record information either with a camera, microphone or screen shot.  You can then search on the information.  I have downloaded the windows version and I am in the process of installing it.  I hear that it is also an app available for most phones.  They are also working on sharing the info, encryption is there, and soon, chat.  This is another app that will really take off in my opinion.

CES 2009 Review

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

imga05261Las Vegas, Nevada.  A great place to visit.  On this last visit, I was able to browse the Las Vegas Hilton and the Sands.  Why these hotels?  They were hosting the Consumer Electronics show of 2009.  At this show, I was exposed to the latest gadgets in the electronics industry.  From Cell Phones, Netbooks, notebooks, laptops, 3d Video for Computers, skinny computers, HD Video Cameras, Led TV’s, 1/2″ flat screen tv’s and that is just the start.  Home theater to the auto industry, showing off there latest sound systems and unique styles.  Even the gaming world had exciting things to show off starting with simulators, 3d video games, full sounds systems.  Of course, Apple and Microsoft where showing off there latest music players from the IPOD to the Zune.  I didn’t find google’s booth, but I am sure if there where there that android was being shown off.

I have attached some video and photos that you can look through.  Enjoy the scenery.

Cell phone information

Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find
yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an
Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to
establish the emergency number for you! , and in terestingly, this number 112
can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

Have you locked your keys in the car?

Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy
someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys
in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on
their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot
from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock
button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will
unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no
object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has
The other ‘remote’ for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Hidden! Battery Power

Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the
Keys
*3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument
will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you
charge your cell phone next time
.

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

To check your Mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following
Digits on your phone:
*#06#.

A 15-digit code will appear on the
Screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it
somewhere safe.
When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider
And give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset
so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally
useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know
that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there
would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.
