Mad Mike Hughes – Steam Powered Rocket Jump – Beats world record of Evil Knievel

Saturday, February 22nd, 2014

Watch on Youtube

Stuntman Mad Mike Hughes fly’s in a steam powered rocket at a distance of 1374′, breaking the world record. Launched on January 30, 2014 2:00pm in Winkleman Arizona.  With 420 psi of steam and about 4 seconds after the launch you hear the rocket breaking the sound barrier, which is 340.29 m / s or 1100 feet per second or 761 miles per hour.  With the force of 4 Gs, he is feels the pressure of four times his weight.  About 20 seconds into his flight, he releases his parachute.  This was his 5th attempt to launch in Winkleman Arizona.   I was there for 3 different attempts, providing aerial footage with my DJI Phantom Quad Copter.  Equipped with a GoPro Hero 3, Black Edition camera, I was able to film the launch site that is shown in the video.

Mike plans on doing the jump again after he rebuilds his rocket.  His goal is to have the people from the Guinness Book of World records present and record the flight.  The location is yet to be determined, but he is looking in Southern California, and is also looking for sponsorship.  If interested in watching his next flight, subscribe to his youtube channel or visit his website at http://www.madmikehughes.com/

I want to thank Mike Hughes and Mike Hawkins for inviting me to be part if his team in this event.  Best of luck to you in your next launch.
