March 4th, 2010

Welcome to todays LunchCast. I have 3 topics that may be of interest to you.  Check them out:

  1. Visit my daily posts - Useful websites to visit BLOG or Great LinksDavid
  2. Please rob me website – Explains the dangers of using all of these social networks.  Here is a quote from there website: We want to offer this website to a professional foundation, agency or company that focuses on raising awareness, helping people understand and provide answers to online privacy related issues.
  3. Random chatChat roulette – This allows you to randomly connect with video chat to people around the world.  Be careful, as you can see nudity – even though it isn’t allowed. Here are there terms of service: Chatroulette does not tolerate broadcasting obscene, offending, pornographic material and we will have to block users who violate these rules from using our service

Here are some questions that I would like to have answered:

  1. Can you activate a usb camera without the light turning on?  I know you can listen to the microphone without the light coming on.  I have the Logitech 9000.  I raise this question due to what happened with the school district that was spying on the students via the laptops webcam.  I believe that the answer to this question is yes if it isn’t hard wired to the camera’s operating electronics.  In other words, if the led is controlled via software / driver, then yes it is possible.
  2. How can I tell if a camera is operating?
  3. How can I tell if there is a camera in the room?
  4. How can I disable a camera that is watching me?
  5. Can I see what the traffic cameras are recording?

I did some searching on these questions:

  1. I have found a website that can look for video broadcasts via wireless and display’s the video.
  2. Interesting reading here

LunchCast – Droid APPs and GPS

March 3rd, 2010

I own the Motorola Droid, and I keep looking for new apps that work and are usable.  There are a lot of apps out there, but after reading the comments on most of them, they seem to have problems or they are in beta stage of the software development.

I found this App called GPS Tracker which claims that it is free.  You can then track the phone via the website for all to see.  Is there security to only allow the people you want to see where you where?  The website is provided by instamapper.com

Some other apps that I really like are the Google Shopper, Shop Savvy, Google Goggles.

Lunchcast – Random thoughts and current events

March 2nd, 2010

Ok, so we want to keep the website up to date with as much information as we can.  So I have decide that my new goal is to have a Lunch Cast every day.  Should be short and sweet.

Today, I would like to start it with YouTube news.  Around 9:00 am, I went to YouTube.com and got the message http1.1 error.  I could not connect to YouTube.  It looks like this could have been a global outage.  I tried connecting from California and John tried from Colorado.  We both had the same results.  After waiting about 10 minutes, the site was back online.

Google news, they are attacked by China earlier this month.  Could this be a related event?  After all, YouTube is now part of google.

Is apple trying to shut down the competition to the IPhone?  Are Lawsuits going to be filed?

After watching some videos on YouTube about the Chile earthquake, I found myself thinking about what would I have done if the big one hit California.

So is Google the new power company?  The refrigerator sized power plant that you can install at home and get yourself off of the power grid .

Adobe CS4 Premeir and M2Ts AVCHD video editing.

February 15th, 2010

Adobe CS4 Premeir and M2Ts AVCHD video editing.

Based on a chart that Adobe has published, you can import AVCHD video, but you can not export it in the original format.  I have found that youtube will allow you to upload your raw m2ts files directly.  However, if you want to edit the video, you will need to export it to another format.  I am currently searching for a way to do simple Splice and Slice in the native format.

I have found a simple program to splice the video.  It is very fast and will playback fine on windows 7.  However, when you upload the video to youtube, it doubles the size of the video and playback is in slow motion. It is as if the frame rate doubled.

AVCHD (.m2ts, .mts) Import only

Supported file formats in Premiere Pro CS4

I have also researched Sony Vegas Pro and have found the same problem.

Supported File Formats
